Hover or click on the body areas below to learn more about the story that your pain can tell you.
Left Side Pain
Left side of the body represents feminine roles/energy. The right side of the brain controls the left side of the body. To simplify, the right brain deals with emotions, tends to be more free thinking, creative and visual. These characteristics are considered feminine. Pain on the left side of the body gives us a chance to ask if any typically feminine roles are out of balance.
Right Side Pain
Right side of the body represents masculine roles/energy. Left brain controls right side of the body. Left brain tends to be more analytical, factual and is responsible for language. I am generalizing, however pain on the right side of the body can be investigated to see if masculine traits are out of balance.
Ankle Pain
Ankles help us balance by being flexible. Is there an area of your life where you lack balance? Where are you very strict or rigid?
How would it feel to loosen up a little? Scary? Excellent. Vulnerable? Fun?
Growth doesn’t happen in the comfort zone my friend. Ankle pain is an indicator there’s an opportunity to be more flexible.
Knees
What do we do with our knees? We bend, we kneel, we pray. Knees correspond to the feeling of bending down to another person’s will. Sacrificing our own point of view to accommodate someone else. This pain could be a reaction to feeling disrespected. Stand up for yourself politely and gently.
Hips
Hips represent our foundation, safety and security. Hips represent the bedrock of our beliefs. Hip pain implies a change that has shaken our very foundation. Did someone shock you with a decision that is out of character? Did you discover someone lied? It may be important to put that relationship in time-out.
Wrists
Wrist pain can indicate being overly flexible. Overworking to earn praise and appreciation. Set boundaries and stick to them.
The wrist waves hello. What are you ready to wave in? A new relationship?
The wrist waves goodbye. What are you ready to say goodbye to?
Shoulder Deltoid
Do you have the weight of the world on your shoulders?
This is a phrase that represents worry. All worry exists in the past or the future. Are you okay right now? Stay in the present moment. By listening to your breath. Focus on breathing in/out.
Shoulder Blade
This area of the body represents betrayal. Has someone betrayed you? This area symbolizes someone putting a knife in the back. Did someone stab you in the back? Breathe. Forgiveness is on the path to healing, but your body may be feeling the pain you imagine or know intuitively.
Low Back
Back pain can represent wounds of the past. Its helpful to let go of resentments and grudges when treating chronic mid-back pain. Forgiveness is a part of the process.
Back pain has many layers. One other question to ask. Who needs to get off your back? How could you manage their expectations?
Buttocks / Glutes
The buttocks region, at times, represents unexpressed anger. Quite literally, who is the pain in the butt?
Does that resonate with you at all? Are you pissed off?
In the past, was there a time when you didn’t express how angry you really were? If you could relive that moment, what would you say?
IBS
Have you heard the saying, “I worried sick.” Sometimes worry gives us an upset stomach. Over an extended amount of time, worry can lead to symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
An upset stomach can also be about swallowing your anger. Finding your words will get the belly ache out of your system.
Neck
Who is the pain in your neck?
Is someone breathing down your neck? Normally the offending person is not attacking you intentionally. They are miserable and trying to make you miserable too. Set and communicate boundaries that work for you.
Hands
What do hands do? They grip and release. What are you unwilling to let go of? Or holding onto with white knuckles?
Are things getting out of hand?
Do you feel like your hands are tied? Know that you are in control. It may not seem like it, but you are in control.
Feet
Feet move us forward I life. What is your next step?
Feet serve as out point of contact to the ground. Do you feel connected to Mother Earth? Do you feel a connection to where you live?
